Carefx Expands Footprint in Europe; Gives St-Luc UCL Physicians and Staff Unified Patient Data in a Single View
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona - April 18, 2006. Carefx Corporation today announced that St-Luc UCL hospital, the academic hospital for Catholic University Louvain in Brussels, Belgium, has implemented Fusion from Carefx® to deliver streamlined and secure access to aggregated patient data. Fusion from Carefx enables St-Luc UCL's physicians and staff to view vital patient information in a single, unified view from any workstation at any time throughout St-Luc UCL hospital.
Like many hospitals, St-Luc UCL hospital had a proliferation of clinical applications housing critical patient data. However, because these applications were not integrated, clinicians were left frustrated by the need for unique user IDs, passwords, and patient searches within each individual application in order to get a complete view of a patient's clinical record.
In an attempt to eliminate workflow redundancies and inefficiencies and streamline the log-in process for clinicians, St-Luc UCL hospital implemented a proprietary Single Sign-On (SSO) solution. However, the hospital quickly recognized that SSO alone was not enough. Real-time, unified access to the most up-to-date, accurate patient information is vital to extending the value of a SSO solution, simplifying clinicians' access to patient information and ensuring the highest level of security, patient safety and care.
"Before Carefx, we had a portfolio of applications that did not interoperate, making the process of accessing all the patient data required to make fully informed clinical decisions both difficult and time-consuming," said Dr. Dominique Gonze of St-Luc UCL hospital. "After exploring several options for linking our clinical applications, we found that Carefx provided better service, the ability to aggregate patient information both in Web and client application environments, as well as utilized industry standards within an open, flexible and scalable architecture."
"We value our partnership with the team at St-Luc UCL hospital and are thrilled that our solution has helped them build a more efficient clinical workflow," said Andrew Hurd, chairman and CEO of Carefx. "As with the domestic healthcare industry, we are very pleased with the continued success Carefx is experiencing in the international market. Again and again, we are finding that hospitals are choosing our open, flexible and scalable solution over the closed, proprietary systems offered by our competitors."
Fusion from Carefx is the first Patient Information Aggregation platform designed specifically for the healthcare provider environment as an alternative to the heavy lifting of back-end data integration. Fusion from Carefx's open, scalable architecture and standards-based approach makes it the preferred aggregation solution of industry leaders, including CA, Cerner, GE Medical Systems, IBM, McKesson, Novell and Siemens Medical Solutions. Today, more than 200 hospitals in the United States and internationally use Fusion from Carefx.
